What is an essential oil?
The aromatic, healing compounds found in the seeds, flowers, bark, leaves, and/or roots of plants. They are carefully steam distilled or cold-pressed in order to keep the plants’ powerful healing components alive. Essential oils are 50-70x more powerful than herbs! Use sparingly!
What makes my oils different from other oils?
Every batch of doTERRA Essential Oil is thoroughly cross-tested in independent laboratories with a series of tests. These oils are pure therapeutic grade, are 100% pure and natural, no synthetics or contaminates, including pesticides. CAUTION: INFORMATION PROVIDED HERE APPLIES ONLY TO OILS I SELL. The FDA does not regulate or control essential oils. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Do not expect the same results with drugstore or even health food store varieties of essential oils. READ AND follow the directions that come with the essential oil you purchase. For example there are many varieties of lavender . Many may be used for skin irritation and minor burns while others will actually cause skin irritation and mild burns. Since all varieties come from the same biological classification of "lavender" they may be sold as pure lavender.
There are three main ways to use essential oils:
- Topically: Apply 1-2 drops on the area of concern and gently rub in to increase circulation and absorption. Or, you can apply 1-2 drops on the bottoms of the feet—the pores of the feet are bigger than any other pores, so absorption is very fast
- Aromatically: Use 3-4 drops in a diffuser. Make your own personal diffuser by putting a drop of oil in your hands, rub your hands together, cup your nose and inhale.
- Internally: To use, put 1-2 drops in water and drink, mix with honey or milk, or put a few drops in an empty veggie capsule (found at health food stores or pharmacies) and take like a pill. Follow the individual manufacturer's instructions for the oil you purchase.
Just remember 2 safety rules:
- Do not apply (or get) essential oils inside your ear canals, eyes, or nose. These are the most sensitive areas of the body, and essential oils contain very condensed healing components. Use fractionated coconut oil to dilute and seek medical attention if an accident occurs.
- If your skin feels sensitive to an essential oil when used topically, dilute with oil, NOT water. Any oil will do - baby oil, suntan oil, olive oil, canola oil. Water will drive oil in faster (which is great when that’s what you want to do!)
REMEMBER: Oil and Water do not mix. You cannot wash off an oil. If there is any irritation, use oil (FCO or any oil in your kitchen - olive, canola etc., baby oil, ) to dilute.
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS WITH CHILDREN. Refer to the specific dilution rules for children. THE BOTTOM OF THE FEET HAVE THE TOUGHEST SKIN ALLOWING FOR FEWER SKIN IRRITATIONS, AND THE LARGEST PORES ALLOWING FOR THE FASTEST ABSORPTION.
If you aren’t getting the results you were hoping for:
- Increase the frequency of use (try applying every 10-20 minutes!)
